About YMCAs
Building Strong Kids
Every year, YMCAs across New York State provide care for over 500,000 children and teens. From UPK to After School, the YMCA helps to care for New York’s children. The YMCA offers over 550 youth and adult sports leagues, award winning programs such as Youth and Government, Writers’ Voice and the Black Achievers program. At the YMCA, children are learning the YMCA core values of: Caring, Honesty, Respect, and Responsibility.
Building Strong Families
The YMCAs across New York State provide millions of dollars in scholarships to families in need of assistance for membership and child care. The YMCA believes no one should be turned away for inability to pay. The YMCA continues to reach out to families with family oriented activities, parent-child programs, family counseling and parenting skills. We still believe in the power of the family and that every kid deserves a Y.
Building Strong Communities
From the very beginning, the YMCA has been a safe haven. After 150 years, the YMCA still cares for everyone. Each year thousands of men, women and children find solace at the YMCA where we provide food and housing to those in need. But not just a shelter, YMCAs offer employment services and substance abuse counseling, as well as community education in CPR Training, G.E.D and Adult Literacy programs, and HIV/AIDS Education. We know that everyone deserves a chance to achieve and at the YMCA, anyone can find that chance.
As Not-For-Profit Corporations, YMCAs use their tax exempt status to help children, families and communities across New York State. The YMCA is proud to have over 16,000 volunteers and collaborate with more than 750 schools, colleges, hospitals, churches, government agencies, corporations and other non profits. As New York’s largest child care provider and an employer of thousands of New Yorkers, the YMCA continues to provide essential services to communities across the state. The YMCA is still touching everyone’s lives, everyday.
